Thames Head Barn

Listed Barn Conversion

A traditional Cotswold stone barn, with views over the source of the river Thames. The building was originally used as stables for horses working the adjacent canal and nearby basin.

We surveyed, designed, managed the tender process and acted as contract administrator for the conversion of the barn.

An open plan ground floor with a central wood burner and modern staircase provide a key focal point for the building and allows daylight to be brought deep into the building. The extension uses materials that juxtapose and are subservient to the limestone barn to show a clear evolution of development.

A conservative approach has been taken in repairing the listed barn with minimum interventions to stonework and timber and the utilisation of the existing structure.
