A live work conversion for three barns – granted at planning appeal.
The existing site has five barns and we proposed the demolition of two and the conversion of the remaining barns with landscaping. The barns take the form of Nissen huts with a linear footprint in some cases up to 50m long.
It was demonstrated that the conversions would be beneficial to the character and appearance of the countryside, with a sensitive landscape and building design. In place of the corrugated iron cladding we proposed a palette of matt zinc sheeting and a local brick. We developed strategies to avoid long corridors and bring light into the unusual spaces which will make generous family houses with adjacent offices.
A condition of the planning was that we undertook an ecological survey which was undertaken by Maydencroft Land Advisory http://www.landadvisory.co.uk/ who advised on the protected species includingbats.
