The brief from the tall clients, was to achieve a home with five bedrooms with good head height and new outbuildings. To acieve this it was necessary to extend the barn.
With the extension we had to demonstrate to English Heritage and the council that the propsal would have an overall benefit on the barn and the historic pattern of the farmstead of which it belongs. We undertook histrorical research mapping the evolution of the farm and detailed analysis of the fabric to determine the original material from recent interventions, before making our proposals.
The proposal will enhance the main building with the removal of two floors to reveal the volume of the threshing barn, this will create a triple height living space. The lost bedrooms are housed in an exteneded wing which was previously too narrow to use.
We look forward to seeing this project develop into 2014.
